singer rahsaan patterson didn't really interest me initially. i remember seeing the video for his song "stop by" a few times, but i thought it was pretentious. in it, he's on display in a store window as a living mannequin who's singing his heart out as people pass by staring or smiling at him or dancing with him. then at the end of the video, most of the passers by are inside the store window, partying with patterson.i allowed that visual to keep me from exploring his music until now and i must thank pandora for that. the intricate internet radio site of music lusciousness introduced me to two songs from patterson's 2004 album, after hours, and made me a believer. they were "i always find myself" and "yeah yeah yeah." soonafter hearing those two songs, i downloaded after hours from itunes.
before after hours i only thought of patterson as a talented guy who'd written great songs for other singers like brandy ("baby") and jody watley ("lovin' you so"), but didn't keep any for himself. i stand corrected: he apparently saved them all for after he left major label mca for the independent fare at artistry music.
he has a new album called "wines & spirits" coming out next month. artistry music has a song from it and after hours on its myspace page.
